Ohio Child Support
Ohio Support Order Changes In 2019
As of March 28, 2019, Ohio made effective new child support laws for the first time in almost thirty years. Among some of the bigger changes is the fact that a deviation in support is now tied to parenting time. Also, the full amount of the health insurance premium, as well as actual out-of-pocket expenses, can be used on the worksheet when calculating a guideline child support amount. It is important to note that there will be no automatic modification to existing child support orders. Those order will remain in place unless a party requests a modification. A party would still need to show a change in circumstances or more than a 10% change in guideline support in order to have standing to modify an existing court order. Further, the 88 county courts in Ohio each have their particular way of handling these cases. It is important to be prepared, informed and have reliable counsel to help guide you through this process.
